In other parts of the world they make beads out of coiled up paper. The beauty of the bead can be from the design on the paper, or they can be painted any colors. This, like just about any craft, takes some patience. I used skewers and toothpicks to wind the paper round and round. The paper is best when cut long, narrow and very tapered. I practiced and played around with different sizes to see how they turn out. The wider the paper at the widest end, the longer the bead. The longer the strip of paper, the fatter the bead. Makes sense! Once coiled, you secure the thin end with a bit of glue. After letting that sit a few seconds to secure the coiled paper, I coated the whole bead with glue, mod podge, or nail polish. I am using a clear glitter polish, which gives a nice effect π Gently transferring the fresh bead to a pick or skewer which has been previously inserted into a stable base to dry. A second coat will further strengthen and protect the paper bead.
Pretty Paper Beads!
